when you ask someone a question and they just give you a completely different answer than what you were asking about
I asked my coworker if he preferred coffee or tea. He looked me dead in the eye and said, "My car needs new brake pads." I nodded like this was relevant information. We haven't spoken since, but I'm fairly certain he's won whatever that was.
