when you ask someone a question and they just repeat it back to you instead of actually answering it

I asked my coworker if he'd seen the Henderson report. He looked at me thoughtfully and said, "Have I seen the Henderson report?" I nodded encouragingly. He nodded back. We stood there for forty-five seconds like two pigeons evaluating a french fry, and then he walked away to get coffee.

When you ask someone a question and they answer with another question instead of just telling you what you need to know.

You ask your coworker if the meeting got moved to 3 PM. She says, "Well, do *you* think it got moved to 3 PM?" You stand there wondering if this is Socratic method or if she genuinely doesn't know and is now your responsibility. By the time you've figured out which one it is, the meeting has started at 2 PM in a different room.
