You realize he's not going to say anything else—he's just achieved perfect understanding of the question and considers his job done.

You ask your colleague if he's seen your stapler. He stares. You wait. You check if he's breathing. Eventually you realize he's not ignoring you—he's downloading the answer from somewhere deep in his hard drive, and you've accidentally made eye contact during his loading screen. You leave before he finishes buffering.

You finally get your friend's attention to tell them about your terrible day, and they nod while scrolling—then ask you to repeat the entire thing because they "zoned out for a second." That second was seven minutes. You've now told your story twice, to someone whose eyes have never left a screen, which means technically you've been talking to a phone the whole time. At least it didn't interrupt me with its own problems.
