You start explaining something perfectly simple—like how to reset your WiFi password—and their face goes completely blank, eyes locked on you like a cat watching a laser dot move across a wall. By the third sentence you're already simplifying: "It's on the back of the router." Blank stare. "The *router*. The box." Blanker. Eventually you're pointing at it in person while they nod and say "ohhh" in a way that suggests they still don't know what a router is, just that you seem very passionate about one particular corner of the room.
